Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan are coming together for the first time in a Bollywood film, in Karan Johar’s Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Koimoi.com Editor Komal Nahta caught up with the stars to know more about the film and their expectations from it. Read on…
Kareena, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu is set to release on this Friday (February 10). Tell us what has been the feedback of people who have already seen the film?
Kareena: Everybody says that it is a very special film; people have liked the chemistry between me and Imran in the film.
Have you seen the film yet?
Kareena: No. I think I am also a little nervous because I am doing this kind of role after a long time. The dialogues and lines in this film are so normal and so conversational and I find them the most difficult (to enact).
Imran: The dialogues are so conversational that the challenge is to make them interesting and that requires real talent. Crying and shouting and overacting is easy, but if you are doing subtle, normal work… that is the real challenge.
Imran, you have already seen the film. Tell us how confident are you about Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu?
Imran: I am very confident; I think (director) Shakun Batra has made a very good film. But I am pessimist as well and I always feel that haven’t we done enough. Have we generated enough interest? Are our promotions correct? Therefore, I am always nervous!
Kareena plays hair stylist in the film. Have you styled Imran’s hair?
Kareena: Yes, in one of the scenes. But the focus of the film is not actually on the jobs; it’s more on the kind of people they (the characters) are.
And Imran, you play an architect…
Imran: Yes, but in the first scene itself I lose my job. My character Rahul is someone who doesn’t have his own personality. Everything in his life is decided by his parents. On the contrary, Kareena’s character Riana is strong. After they meet, she opens Rahul’s horizons.
From what you are saying, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu seems more like a Hollywood film.
Imran: Yes, the style and treatment of this film is westernised… it’s not really a single screen film.
Kareena: There are no Punjabi numbers! In that sense, it’s quite a straight film.
Which are your favourite films from each other’s previous ones?
Imran: I think Chameli. And I also liked her work in Kurbaan.
Kareena: I have not seen any complete film of Imran yet, because I don’t see too many Hindi movies.
Why so?
Kareena: Because, Saif (Ali Khan) loves to see English films. But he has loved the promos of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. Hopefully we will watch the film together.
