It has been a while since, the trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, have released a soundtrack. Now, the renowned trio is back for Meghna Gulzar’s espionage thriller Raazi. The film features Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal in leading roles. Their new song Dilbaro was released earlier today.
While the previous song Ae Watan was a patriotic song that tugged at the hearts of every Indian, Dilbaro takes a completely different direction.
The song starts playing as we see Sehmat (Alia Bhatt) getting married off to Pakistani Army officer Iqbal Syed (Vicky Kaushal). Starting off with a soothing Kashmiri verse sung by Vibha Saraf, she is soon followed by Harshdeep Kaur. The voice of the two singers perfectly encapsulates the bond between Sehmat and her father, without them saying a single word. We see her father struggle to hold back his tears as he watches his daughter go away, knowing how much danger she is in.
Shankar Mahadevan has a few lines in the song as well, expressing the father’s emotional turmoil. With lyrics penned by Gulzar, it’s not hard to see why this song touched our hearts, as we listen to it on a loop.

All of Raazi’s songs so far have had this effect on listeners. While the film doesn’t have many songs, there’s something unique about each one of them. One cannot help but feel welled up while listening to Dilbaro, just as listening to Ae Watan gives us a sense of pride about our country.
Based on Harinder Sikka’s novel Calling Sehmat, Raazi follows the story of a Kashmiri girl who is sent to Pakistan as a spy during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. Alia Bhatt recently on Colors TV’s Rising Star to promote her film, where she unveiled the first song, Ae Watan. An ode to the unsung heroes of our nation, Raazi releases on May 11.
