The film  is based on the inspiring true story about 9-year-old Phiona Mutesi coming from one of the most poverty-stricken slums in Kampala. The story deals with a touching mother daughter relationship, that evolves in difficult circumstances.

Queen of Katwe is directed by Mira Nair from a screenplay by William Wheeler. The film is slated to hit the theaters on 7th October,2016.
