Koimoi rating: 3/5 stars
The Agneepath album has six tracks. The album, which has no remixed songs, sounds broad in terms of the layers and textures and the overall feel is filmy in nature. It is old school Bollywood music!
Agneepath Music Review: Chikni Chameli
The first track, Chikni chameli, is famous for more reasons than one. The song has been composed by Marathi music director duo, Ajay-Atul, who had also composed the music for Singham. The original version of Chikni chameli was a tried and tested hit Marathi song Kombadi Palali rendered by the same composers (Ajay-Atul). It’s adaptation, Chikni chameli, has vocals by Shreya Ghoshal and smells like a super hit! It has a lot of energy, is catchy and also contains a lyrical hook – the perfect ingredients for a mass Bollywood hit.
Agneepath Music Review: O Saiyyan
The next song, O saiyyan, is romantic, soulful and melancholic with shades of loneliness and longing. It begins with a recurring note and builds up gradually. It has been sung by Roop Kumar Rathod.
Agneepath Music Review: Gun Gun Guna
Track 3 on the Agneepath album is Gun gun guna. It contains a Marathi essence with respect to the groove and a few other elements. Most of the song has been sung by Sunidhi Chauhan. The last bit, however, has Udit Narayan’s vocals which boast of great presence. The song is refreshing.
Agneepath Music Review: Shah Ka Rutba
Track 4 is called Shah ka rutba – a sufi qawwali track sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Anand and Krishna Beura. Its is a broad track and the string section is interesting. Look out for the jugalbandi like the tabla solo which is the introduction to the bridge and the second chorus which is faster in tempo.
Agneepath Music Review: Abhi Mujh Mein Kahi
Abhi mujh mein kahi is a soothing romantic track sung by Sonu Nigam. The song is mellow, gentle, romantic and contemplative. Nigam’s vocal dexterity has been very successful in conveying the intensity of the song. The violin also has been marvelously used in the song.
Agneepath Music Review: Deva Shree Ganesha
Deva shree ganesha is a high energy devotional song. It starts off with bells of different pitches fused together and then the introduction of percussions. The whole song gives out a Mumbai Ganesh Visarjan-like feel and is definitely going to be a pandal hit! The vocals are rendered by one of the composers himself (Ajay Gogavale). He could, however, be mistaken for Sukhwinder Singh for the similarity in style and delivery.
Agneepath Music Review: Verdict
Overall Agneepath is an old school Bollywood album. The songs will have mass influence. The album however will not bridge the gap with the ‘hip’ but the ‘hip’ can’t ignore it, for more reasons than one!
