Rakesh Roshan titled his film Kites because he got the inspiration to make that film when he saw two kites flying in the sky. The kites came close to each other, played, almost embraced each other and then drifted apart, unaware that someone else was pulling the strings and could cut them loose. Roshan penned a story around that idea.

A kite is the metaphor of the film. Like the kites fly against the wind, the protagonists in the film (Hrithik Roshan and Mexican actress Barbara Mori), too, face obstacles. Kites is directed by Anurag Basu.
