Perhaps sensing the series would be a success, Netflix renewed The Witcher for season 2 before the first had even released. Season 2 starring Henry Cavill, is set to debut in 2021 and will consist of eight episodes, the same number as season 1.
Unfortunately, filming on season 2 has faced multiple disruptions. Production began in early 2020 but was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to virtually every TV show and movie pausing filming at the same time, The Witcher actor Kristofer Hivju revealed he tested positive for the virus. Production wasn’t able to resume again until late summer and continued on for several months successfully. However, in early November, The Witcher halted filming on season 2 yet again, this time due to four people related to the series testing positive. Work began again a couple of weeks later, but now it seems season 2 is facing another challenge.
Henry Cavill injured his leg while on an assault course. At the time, he was wearing a safety harness and 20 feet off the ground. A source stated the incident didn’t require an ambulance but will affect Cavill’s ability to wear the heavy armour required for his role. Reports further state that it as “a minor leg muscle injury,” also stating Cavill will be “sidelined” for a short while, but the production will continue around him. It won’t be for long, as the show will take time off for the holidays at the end of the year.
