The Great Indian Kapil Show Episode 2 featured Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer as the guests. The Netflix series stars Kapil Sharma, Sunil Grover, Archana Puran Singh, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda and Rajiv Mathur. It’s IPL season, and the craze for cricket is in the air. So watching these two cricketers talk about their work and everything else was quite exciting.
On Kapil’s show, Indian Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma opened up about the 2023 World Cup Finals loss against Australia. The Indian team lost its chance to win the World Cup as Australia won by six wickets. On The Great Indian Kapil Show, Rohit shared, “Yeh kehna bada mushkil hain kyunki match ke pehle hum do din Ahmedabad mein the, hum practice kiye. Ek achcha momentum team ka bana hua tha. Bolte hain jaise ki autopilot mein team chal rahi thi (Saying this is quite difficult because two days before the match, we were in Ahmedabad, practising. A good momentum was built within the team. It felt like the team was running on autopilot.)
Rohit Sharma added, “Jab final match start hua, humne shuruwat achchi ki. I think Shubman Gill jaldi out ho gaya tha. But uske baad Virat {Kohli] aur mera thoda saa ek partnership ho gaya tha. Toh confidence tha ki hum achcha score khada kar sakenge. Par final mein jab ap khelte ho, bade matches mein, run laga doge board pe toh samne waalo ke upar pressure hogi. Chahe ho 100 run kyu na ho! Kyunki unko banana he woh run. Aur pressure mein koi bhi team fisal sakti hein! But unhone achcha cricket khela, Australia ne, unka bada partnership bhi ho gaya tha.”

The translation in English – “When the final match started, we had a good start. I think Shubman Gill got out early. But after that, Virat [Kohli] and I had a small partnership. So, there was confidence that we could set a good score. But in a final match, when you play, in big matches… when you put runs on the board, there will be pressure on the opponents. Whether it’s 100 runs or not! Because they have to chase those runs. And any team can slip under pressure! But they played good cricket, Australia… they also had a big partnership.”
Archana Puran Singh told Rohit Sharma that even if the team lost, they won the hearts of every Indian. The audience of The Great Indian Kapil Show gave a standing ovation to the cricketers on stage. Rohit Sharma was overwhelmed by the reaction and said, “After WC Final, I was thinking, WC in India & we couldn’t win, the nation might be angry with us, the people might be disappointed, but wherever I went, after finals, people showed lots of love & heard people praising how well we played.”
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma currently plays for the Mumbai Indians team. Sharma is no longer the team’s captain, as Hardik Pandya has been leading the team since 2023. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer is the captain of Shah Rukh Khan’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
