Netflix is all set to film a documentary on South Korean girl group Blackpink. The film will reportedly look at the band’s recording process and the highs and lows of being a K-pop idol. The documentary is titled as Blackpink: Light Up The Sky and will be released on October 14.

The K-pop Blackpink saw a meteoric rise after its recent collaboration with Selena Gomez’s Ice Cream. The song is now featured in the Billboard Hot 100. The SVOD service which will launch the documentary will be directed by Caroline Suh and produced by RadicalMedia. Previously Caroline Suh directed the Netflix’s Salt Fat Acid Heat.

Netflix’s Blackpink: Light Up The Sky will feature exclusive interviews with members Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa and never-before-seen footage. It will then culminate with their 2019 performance at Coachella.

Giving a statement about K-pop documentary, Netflix’s Adam Del Deo, vice president of documentary features said, “The K-pop phenomenon has been sweeping the globe and Blackpink has arguably become the most recognizable and most popular girl group in the world. We’re thrilled to bring their story to their fans worldwide.”

The K-pop group Blackpink also commented about their documentary. They said, “We can’t wait to share our personal stories with Blinks all over the world through Netflix! We hope this film will bring joy and light to the viewers, and they will enjoy seeing our journey together on screen from the past four years.”

The South Korean girl group, which now enjoys incredible global success, was formed in 2016. Their lead single from The Album, “How You Like That,” has now garnered nearly 86 million views in its first 24 hours on YouTube. With its music video notching, the song became an instant hit on TikTok and other platforms.
