Surbhi Chandna is currently winning hearts with her act as Bani in Naagin 5. The actress is one of the popular faces on TV. She has shown her acting prowess earlier in shows like Qubool Hai, Ishqbaaz and Sanjivani. Ekta Kapoor’s supernatural thriller is a big change for the actress.

The fifth season started with Hina Khan along with Mohit Malhotra and Dheeraj Dhoopar. After a long time, the actress graced TV screens again. However, the Hacked actress recently revealed why she doesn’t cater more towards television like before. Khan called TV content regressive and pointed out how they show women bechari.

Koimoi spoke to Surbhi Chandna and asked her reaction to Hina Khan’s statement. The Naagin 5 actress said that she agrees with the Kasautii Zindagii Kay star. The Sanjivani actress said, “I’m not going to deny when Hina said that TV serials show women ‘bechari’. That’s exactly true because I’ve faced in the serials, in the past. The audience always connects to girls/women who are bechari. I don’t know why. I don’t know if it is regressive or not. But yes, yeh bechari wala comment is totally right.”

The Naagin 5 actress added, “A lot of TV shows go by this rule of showing the female lead docile, bechari. People love watching it. I don’t know why and it shouldn’t be regressive because people enjoy that kind of content. It is also on the artist if he/she wants to do a show like that.”

Surbhi Chandna also said that there are different kinds of shows that don’t portray women ‘bechari’. She added, “But I’ve also seen a variety of shows today which are well-received and well-accepted and still not showing their heroines as bechari. Even Bani is not bechari. She stands up for what is right. She’s also a Naagin. Of course, she has a fierce avatar. But when she is Bani, she is this human who is innocent and lovable. She is not bechari. She stands up when she has to give it back to Veer (Sharad Malhotra). With Jay, it’s different. Even when it was Annika, she wasn’t a bechari. Not even Ishani in Sanjivani.”

The Naagin 5 actress concluded her answer by saying, “But yes, I do see that over a period of time in TV shows, people tend to show their heroines bechari.”
