When it comes to morning television shows, Good Morning America has always been among the top names. But things haven’t been the same for the last few months. There has been a lot of chaos and issues behind the scenes, as reports of many layoffs and internal unrest have come out.
Apart from employees being fired and there being an air of fear and dissatisfaction amongst peers, the ratings have also dropped. Those working on the show are worried about their futures due to a lack of job security. Here’s what we know about the trouble brewing on the ABC show.
Is Good Morning America In Danger Amid Layoffs & Dipping Ratings?
According to Radar Online, there is more than just unrest buzzing in the air of Good Morning America. An insider told the portal, “Everybody’s got their heads on a swivel, including the stars of the show.” For the uninitiated, more than 200 employees were fired last month, and the massive list also included executive producer Catherine McKenzie, much to the surprise of onlookers.

According to reports, the production team overseeing the first two hours has taken control of the show. Over the years, Good Morning America has raked in top-notch morning-show ratings, but recently, Today has been actively gaining viewers, leaving the gap between the two at a mere 16,000. Over time, it is quite likely that GMA will be overtaken.
The ABC broadcast show first premiered in November 1975 and has been a rage over the decades. In 2022, anchors Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes left when they got a better opportunity. According to the source, anchors Robin Roberts and Michael Strahan “balked at taking a bigger role in the troubled third hour of the show” even though the network denied the same.
“The third hour is a valued part of the GMA franchise. Robin, George, and Michael have been on before, and they will continue to be featured,” said a spokesperson of the network in a statement. But the insider further stated about the condition, “It’s a different landscape and network execs have little patience for prima donnas,” referring to changing dynamics of the place.
According to Deadline, Good Morning America has been the most watched morning show in total viewers and key demos since 2012. The morning show has also won three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Morning Program. It’s to be seen what the fate of the iconic series will be amidst all the unrest happening in the minds of employees and in the environment.
