The journey of nine seasons and 208 episodes of How I Met Your Mother ended by leaving a bittersweet feeling to many. Yeah, a story about five friends residing in New York having a fixed place to hangout sharing their lives together sounded similar but this one came with an altogether different angle.

Yes, many complained it had FRIENDS’ hangover but isn’t it a good thing? The Legendary Barney, a hopeless romantic Ted, Let’s Go To The Mall with Robin Sparkles, inventor of board games Marshall and our very own Lilypad – these characters have stayed with people who gave How I Met Your Mother a chance despite loving FRIENDS.

How I Met Your Mother: 5 BEST Episodes Ranked & You’ll Never Be Able To Guess What’s At No. 2

Let’s take a brief look at the Best Episodes Of How I Met Your Mother:

5. The Ten Sessions (Season 3, Episode 13)

Remember how even the king of romance Shah Rukh Khan took Ted’s idea of a romantic date in his film Dilwale? The Ten Sessions proves how romance has always been an integral part of the show. Ted’s idea of a 120-seconds date was not just brilliantly written but also beautifully executed.

4. Slap Bet (Season 2, Episode 9)

Where it all started! Robin was no longer just some news anchor turned close friend after the gang exposes the dark secret she has been keeping since years (no Barney, not pornography!). Yeah, Barney thinks she’s a pornstar whereas Marshall thinks she’s married and this gives birth to *inserts Barney’s evil laugh* the epic which went on to be known as Slapsgiving.

3. Bad News (Season 6, Episode 13)

Apart from the lovey-dovey stuff and all the comedy, there are times when How I Met Your Mother tears right through your heart. One of such moments was when Marshall gets to know about his dad dying of a heart attack. Now, simple news wouldn’t have done so much emotional damage but the fact that he just gets to know about this as he calls his father to inform him that his ‘sperm is fine’. Fun trivia: The heartbreaking finale scene of this episode was shot in one take and we were ‘not ready for this’ (I’m still crying!).

2. Last Forever Part Two (Season 9, Episode 24)

The final episode of How I Met Your Mother is the most talked about the episode as it finally completed the beautiful story but also happens to be the most controversial one because of its ending. This episode takes a time jump and it gives closure to all the storylines in the series (we still don’t know about that Pineapple though ). It’s not important whether you liked the ending or no but what’s important is that it makes you THINK and you makes you realise the thing that you’re often searching for is often hiding right in front of you… in plain sight…

1. How Your Mother Met Me (Season 9, Episode 16)

It is a very special episode as it marked a landmark 200th episode for the sitcom. The episode was quite unique as for the first time in the series it wasn’t Ted who was telling us this story… In this episode we see the entire series from her perspective and realise that there were so many instances where they could have met but “timing is a bitch”. At the end of the episode, we finally see Ted and Mother in on frame (Sort of) with a hauntingly beautiful rendition of La Vie En Rose and will almost make you teary-eyed.
