Vijay Deverakonda’s Arjun Reddy which was also adapted in Hindi as Kabir Singh starring Shahid Kapoor has the debate around its ‘misogynistic’ approach still going on. The viewers are divided into two half, and so are the actors including Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Manoj Bajpayee, Parvathy Thiruvothu. But here’s what Vijay has to say to it all.

Recently, the best from B’Town and South including Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Ayushmann Khurrana, Vijay Sethupathi, Manoj Bajpayee, Parvathy and Deverakonda attended a chat show where they discussed cinema. One of the topics remained to be the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial and the controversy around ‘misogyny’ that stirred soon after Kabir Singh released.

When Vijay was asked about his views and why he decided to be a part of the film in the chat show hosted by Anupama Chopra, he replied, “I feel like the world is f**ked, by making a better film, can I save it? I just see it going downhill, be it pollution, water, people’s behaviour, policy, for me it’s really glooming. When it comes to films, I’m in between. I’m not like this is the role I want to do it and I will do it, neither am I like (into) social responsibility… it’s too much of a responsibility.

Just a film doesn’t decide your behaviour. It’s your family, parenting, schooling.. it is multiple things that will lead a person to behave a particular way. It can’t be ‘I saw it in a film, chalo (let’s do it). I’ve seen films where actor smoke, I’ve seen murders, I love songs and dance but I don’t dance”

About his choice as an actor to go forward with Arjun Reddy, Vijay clarified, “If I like a role, I will justify it to myself. I’ll say myself ‘I like this role, I want to do it but if I feel thoda responsible, so I’ll try and cut down some stuff. We cannot take the entire responsibility, and when it comes to films, we all want the films to fit into our lives and our opinions. ”

Furthermore, about Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s controversial ‘slapping’ statement, Vijay Deverakonda said, “Maybe there’s a couple who are so in love, it is completely possible if you think of it broadly that a couple is completely in love and they gave each other little hits and stuff. I can’t make a film for everybody’s personal lives. The director has made what he truly believes in and I bought it completely, and I thought it was very balanced and I did it”
