There was a time when Rajinikanth single-handedly ruled the Tamil film industry, as no one was close to his box office pull. At 73, he’s still a crowd puller, but now, he’s not the only force. It’s still a topic of argument, but many consider Thalapathy Vijay a much bigger superstar in Kollywood in the present era. As a result, there’s a strong rivalry among fans of both the stars.
In the state of Tamil Nadu, both Rajini and Vijay have proved their mettle over the years by delivering the biggest openings. When it comes to global collection, both the stars have delivered films with a sum of over 600 crores gross. Even domestically, there’s a cut-to-cut battle between the both.

Rajinikanth just topples Thalapathy Vijay!
The fad of 100 crores or more remuneration is ever-increasing, and interestingly, both Rajinikanth and Thalapathy Vijay have already joined this club. Even in terms of salary, there’s an intense battle between the both. However, Rajini just managed to stay ahead.
For those who don’t know, it was for 2020’s Darbar, Rajini charged a salary of 100 crore or more for the first time, as per reports. Interestingly, after Darbar’s failure, the superstar was forced to reduce his salary for his next, Annaatthe.
Coming to Thalapathy Vijay, he charged a remuneration of 100 crores or more for the first time for Master, which was released in 2021. After this, he charged a similar amount or even more for his following films like Beast, Varisu, and Leo.
As we can see, Rajinikanth was the first to receive a paycheck of 100 crores or more. In the future, he’s again ready to set a benchmark as his rumored sum for the upcoming Lokesh Kanagaraj film is much above 200 crores.
