Yeh Meri Family Season 3 Review: What’s It About:

It’s the third season of Yeh Meri Family (2018), which depicts the simple and stress-free days of kids born in the 90s. Season 3 takes place during the spring season in Lucknow, and there’s a scent of hopes and dreams in the air. The Awasthi family has many endearing and simple moments in their daily lives, like the joy of the Holi festival, the stress of exams, and other internal conflicts. However, does it evoke any sense of longing for the 90s?

Yeh Meri Family Season 3 Review: What Works:

Yeh Meri Family 3 is a welcome change of tone in a time when the vast majority of web content is filled with crime and thrillers or heavy social dramas. It is delightful, uncomplicated, and peppy. Whether it’s joy, sorrow, or arguments, director Rahib Siddiqui effectively conveys the essence of a middle-class Indian family. In Season 2, Ritika (Hetal Gada) took centre stage. In Season 3, we observe events through Rishi’s (Anngad Raaj) innocent eyes, and at times, he makes you laugh.

Yeh Meri Family Season 3 Review: Star Performance:

As the youngest part of the Yeh Meri Family, Anngad Raaj brilliantly portrays Rishi, who breaks the fourth wall in Season 3. As the adorable and funny narrator, Anngad, is both entertaining and charming. Rajesh Kumar and Juhi Parmar are phenomenal actors, and the duo plays their part as strict and loving Indian parents quite well. Hetal Gada does an amazing job as Rishika again. However, Hetal is Anngad’s rock in several scenes, and you can’t help but get intrigued by their sibling relationship.

Yeh Meri Family Season 3 Review: What Doesn’t Work:

For me, the previous season’s biggest flaw was its failure to capture the spirit of the 90s. Even in the third season, the problem remains. Just as in season 2, the story might occur in any period. For kids growing up in the ’90s, there isn’t much that can compare to the first season’s nostalgic charm. The show might not appeal to everyone born in the 90s and won’t be universally relatable. However, one might find some connection with the Holi and test pressure drama and bullying sequences.

The new season of Yeh Meri Family focuses less on a family in the 1990s and more on an Indian family in general. The 90s was supposed to be the series’ main character, but the era is completely sidelined (again). When it’s humorous and lighthearted, the series really delivers. However, the emotional or tragic moments between the Awasthi family fail to leave their desired impression.

Yeh Meri Family Season 3 Review: Last Words:

Overall, Yeh Meri Family 3 is an apt choice for a light and sweet viewing experience. Sadly, it won’t transport you to your blissful young days of the 90s, as the era’s essence is terribly lacking. The third season lacks the relatability and realness of the first one, which established a high standard when it came to representing our golden age.

Two and a half stars!
