Maharani 3 Review: What’s It About:
Rani Bharti (Huma Qureshi) is still imprisoned in Maharani Season 3 since she is suspected of killing her husband, Bheema Bharti (Sohum Shah). It’s been three years, and Rani has decided to use them in her favour by completing her studies. Bihar appoints Navin Kumar as its chief minister, and alcohol is outlawed across the whole state.
A new season brings with it fresh crimes, plots, and political fights. In the middle of this, Rani Bharti needs to defend herself and prove that she is innocent. Does she succeed, then? It’s something we eventually discover.
Maharani 3 Review: Script Analysis
The first two seasons of Maharani were structured around Rani Bharti, as she was the only woman who was doing her best to make a place for herself in the male-dominated political world of Bihar. The second season ended with Rani getting accused of her husband’s death. It was, therefore, reasonable to expect that the Tigress would roar and respond with tremendous strength and power. Unfortunately, the new season does not live up to that expectation.
In the Rani-centric series Maharani, she makes a cameo in every episode. The narrative mostly centres on Navin Kumar’s attempts to control the situation and his counterattack against Rani for any accusations made against him. Gauri Shankar Pandey (Vineet Kumar) has his own games going on the side to bring down Navin. Amidst all of this, we see an increase in crime in the state, mainly as a result of the alcohol ban. Liquor is sold illegally, and the resulting alcohol addiction is so severe that it claims many lives. Certain elements keep you hooked, but only for some time. The intensity and commitment from Rani’s side are absent in the new season.

It seems like the writers Subhash Kapoor and Nandan Singh no longer consider Rani to be the series’ protagonist when it all started with her! Even though there’s a twist in episode 7, one has to wait longer to finally see her back in action (only for some time). But the twist does very little when we hardly see our lady offering anything substantial till then.
Maharani 3 Review: Star Performance:
As I mentioned above, Huma Qureshi turned into a guest star in her own right. Although Huma performs well, her character, Rani Bharti, doesn’t undergo any drastic transition. Sadly, it appears that the creators didn’t know what to do with her character anymore beyond using her to look for closure on her husband’s murder. Huma’s character had every chance to rise to the top and emerge stronger in Bihar’s intricate political world. But the makers twisted the story and her character’s fate in an unexpected and disappointing direction.
The new season again belongs to Amit Sial, who plays Navin Kumar. Amit remains consistent in portraying Navin phenomenally. He intrigues you as a corrupt politician who will stop at nothing to hold onto power and maintain his “good” reputation. The fact that the character is competent in such twisted games keeps you somewhat interested in the series that’s losing track. The rest of the cast has played their parts well.

Maharani 3 Review: What Doesn’t Work:
Directed by Saurabh Bhave, the third season isn’t as brilliant as the first two seasons. Saurabh accurately represents the unpredictable nature of politics and how it may quickly become nasty. The power battles in the first three episodes keep you interested and curious about Rani’s next moves in this dirty game. However, you start to notice in episode 4 that Rani doesn’t really contribute much to the show. She appears and disappears at the beginning and end of the story, with the crime and other subplots driving the story along.
It’s not all bad, though, since the director accurately portrays how banning alcohol has increased crime. You’ve read a lot of stories about individuals who are desperate to get their hands on sweet poison; cops engaged in illicit sales of alcohol, and other politicians using this and other wrong ways for their own benefit. Saurabh gets the politics right, but that’s not always enough. Maharani, the series meant to be about Rani’s prominence in the state of Bihar’s political struggle, is clearly missing.
There are a few songs throughout the episodes, but the one about the alcohol ban was my favourite. The others seemed too overdramatic.
Maharani 3 Review: Last Words:
Overall, the new season gives us answers, but unsatisfactorily. The show’s “Queen” Rani, played by Huma Qureshi, becomes a guest player in this dirty political chess game. She no longer owns the story, but it also doesn’t strongly belong to any one character. It’s as though the chess pieces were scattered during play and then were pieced together. The series gets the dark side of the politics right, but you still crave more.
