What’s Good: Wrenching car chases with the squeaks of Tyre and the roar of the gear may be a daily dose of the Fast and the Furious series but this one rides on melancholy too as the memory of Paul Walker rides with it. Above all the fancy equipment and the action they bring, with Furious 7 the makers again show how the franchise’s ulterior motive is the thick bonds of friendship that lay base for stories like these. The delicious villain, Jason Statham is the one to watch out for.
What’s Bad: This is the seventh installment of the F&F franchise and James Wan’s obsession for the Sunny weather leads us to LA and Middle East. We would have loved to see cars tumbling in some weird locations more. The plot is weak but survives on the brilliant action sequences.

Watch or Not?: Sure as hell. There is everything you need if you are already a fan of the series. This is the best goodbye for our favorite Brian O’Connor!

Dom/Dominic Toretto is the ‘alpha’ of the furious gang and guess who is chasing his ass this time? Well, revenge is a bitch and to prove it, Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw who is the elder brother of Owen Shaw, now crippled thanks to the mess he created with Dom and his team.
Deck will take down everything that comes his way and his target is clear, Dom’s team. While Letty is still struggling with amnesia, Brian who is married to Dom’s sister Mia is happy raising his child and trying to drive a minivan which is quite uncomfortable for his risky tastes. Trying hard to fit in a domestic life, Brian misses the bullets and well, he soon gets what he wants badly, a daredevil mission.
After losing Han who had taken off to Tokyo and having his house get blown up in flames, an angry Dominic is all set to hunt down Deck. There is also a sub-plot where Kurt Russell who calls himself Mr. Nobody strikes a deal with Dom for a software developed by a hacker by the name of Ramsey. This sub-plot brings another villain to the film played by Djimon Honsou. Thus, ensures a story full of action, revenge and an emotional goodbye.
Furious 7 Review: Script Analysis
When it comes to franchises, they more often than not get stuck to their same old stories and fail to create better versions of their original. Although with Fast and Furious even if the plot may have not taken a upward graph, their dedication to provide you the never seen before stunts stays. In this seventh installment, the story is predictable but well, the mainstay for this action is just defying gravity.
In a scene where Brian tells his kids cars don’t fly, who knew he would himself defy that statement. Cars not only fly through skyscrapers but also make it to the highways with parachute and while it may sound foolish as you read, the experience of it to watch is thrilling to the core. The makers cut down on Johnson’s role in this one, giving the prime focus to Jason. While the whole ‘English badass’ thing works for the villain, the addition of Kurt Russell’s role seems unnecessary.
Furious 7 Review: Star Performances
Vin Diesel’s Dominic Toretto has always been epic and as they call him the ‘alpha’, his unprecedented love for his team and just the dialogue of ‘ I don’t have friends, I have family’ is enough to prove that he is a true ‘alpha’.
Being late Paul Walker’s last film, the montage of him and his journey through the series at the end gets you emotional and that’s when you know he will be truly missed.
Miguelle Rodrguez is hot as hell. She puts up a great girl-on-girl fight and the scene is worth a few whistles.
Dwayne Johnson gets a little smaller role and he is amazing at it.
Ludacris and Tyrese Gibson are at their funny best since they continue to hit on girls and crack their funny lines.
Jordana Brewster as Mia is the perfect wife who cares about her family.
Nathali Emmanuel as Megan Ramsey looks hot as the hacker and her bikini scene did get a few whistles!
Ali Fazal makes a cameo as a Middle Easter who helps Dom and his team to obtain the software that they are looking for. He talks in a Arabic accent, but much of it doesn’t even sound Arabic. Nonetheless, the actor’s cameo in a film as big as this needs to be appreciated.
Coming to the villains, Jason Statham is killer as the English mercenary. He is something who has been missing from this series and his addition makes it a perfect recipe for action.
Furious 7 Review: Direction, Editing and Screenplay
James Wan gives us a good seventh installment of the series. Even though the plot is weak, he makes up a good chunk of exhilarating action with gravity defying car sequences. Cars fly through skyscrapers and one of the scenes just before the interval where Paul escapes from a deadly trailer crash literally gets you at the edge of the seat. There are some killer punchlines exchanged between Jason and Diesel and they certainly hit the right spot.
If only the director had stuck to giving us a single plot minus its layers, this one could have been much better. Gun and grenade trottling Statham’s villain too could have been given a more grim fight but we settle for his English ways. The last scene of the film stands as a great tribute to Paul and Wan succeeds in giving us a melancholic ending. We will truly miss Paul and as bothers they part, an emotional Diesel makes you choke. Wan also shows his excellence in direction with leaving no glimpses of Paul’s brother who shot for certain scenes after they lost Paul mid-way.
Furious 7 Review: The Last Word
Furious 7 is full on F&F style film that will be highly enjoyed by the fans of the series. The stunts are new but the roads are old and for those who have gasoline in their bloods, this adrenaline rushing film will leave you wanting for more. It misses the plot but hits at the right emotions. I am going with a 3.5/5.
