Aarakshan Review – Direction & Music

Prakash Jha’s direction is good but his narrative style is unable to prevent the pace from slackening and making the film boring at places. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music is fair. Acha Lagta Hai is the best number. Mauka and the other songs are fairly nice. Prasoon Joshi’s lyrics are appealing. Song picturisations (by Jayesh Pradhan) could’ve been better. Wayne Sharp’s background music is pretty effective. Cinematography (Sachin Kumar Krishnan) is wonderful. Action scenes have been well-composed by Prem Sharma. Sets (Jayant Deshmukh) ought to have been more natural. Santosh Mandal’s editing could’ve been crisper.

Aarakshan Review – Komal Nahta’s Verdict

On the whole, Aarakshan is an average entertainer. It is too lengthy and boring in parts but it has some excellent scenes and drama which would appeal more to the North Indians. Considering its high cost on the one hand and its ban in some states on the other, it would be an uphill task for the film to cover its cost unless the ban is lifted quickly. The long first weekend (Monday being a public holiday for Independence Day) will prove very beneficial for the film’s business. It must be added here that if the court were to lift the ban, the publicity that would follow would help the film’s collections to take a big leap so that the film could become a comfortably earning proposition.
