When Eric (Jason Sudeikis), a crazy weekend party animal, and his close circle of friends discover that Eric’s summer-house, where they have been having all-night parties for the past many years, has been put up for sale by Eric’s father, they decide to have one last commemorative party there. Eric, alongwith his good-for-nothing but ridiculously funny friend, Mike (Tyler Labine), comes up with the idea of having a sex orgy among the friends themselves.

With Eric and Mike’s persuasion skills, all the friends soon agree to the orgy. While Sue (Michelle Borth) is one of the first girls to jump on the idea, Alison (Lake Bell), who is a psychologist by profession, is the last to give her consent. Of course, all the guys agree but they have to undergo a blood test. While a dating couple – Willow (Angela Sarafyan) and Doug (Martin Starr) – also agrees to join the planned Labour Day orgy, two other friends, Glenn (Will Forte) and Kate (Lucy Punch), who have recently got married, are kept out of the loop.

Preparations are going on in full swing till Eric, the master planner of the orgy, falls in love with his realtor, Kelly (Leslie Bibb). What happens next? Does the orgy go as planned? Or does someone develop cold feet? What happens to the friends’ relationships after the orgy?

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy: Script Analysis

Writers Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck’s story is absurd and preposterous but it is so well-depicted that the audience has a good time laughing their hearts out. The adult content might titillate a few, but the screenplay never becomes vulgar. Of course, the idea of an orgy between close friends in itself might shock a few among the Indian audiences but it will be willingly lapped up by the youth in the cities.

Several scenes stand out for their comedy – especially the one where Eric and Mike go to a secret place to learn how to organise an orgy. The dialogues are rib-tickling.

However, the last few reels are a little tiresome as the drama gets repetitive.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy Review: Star Performances

Jason Sudeikis does a good job as Eric. Tyler Labine is the pick of the lot as the hilarious Mike. Nick Kroll (as Adam), Lindsay Sloane (as Laura), Angela Sarafyan (as Willow), Leslie Bibb (as Kelly), Martin Starr (as Doug), Rhys Coiro (as Marcus), Will Forte (Glenn), Lucy Punch (Kate) and others are effective in their roles.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy Review: Direction & Editing

Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck’s direction makes the most of the ridiculous situations in the script. Jon Sadoff’s background score is alright. John Thomas’ cinematography is functional. Editing, by Anita Brandt-Burgoyne and Patrick J. Don Vito, is okay.

A Good Old Fashioned Orgy Review: The Last Word

On the whole, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy is a fun film. However, the film will not be able to do much business in India due to the lack of face value and absence of strong promotion.
