Recently at an award function, south actress Jyotika stated that both people and government should look after hospitals and schools the same way they look after the temples in the state. This statement didn’t go down well with some religious groups and led to Jyotika being slammed by some people. Now, south star Suriya has backed his wife Jyotika’s statement.
Many people supported Jyotika’s statement, as they are witnessing the importance of healthcare in India at the times of the coronavirus outbreak. But like always many people had a different opinion and slammed the actress. A former Bigg Boss contestant Gayathri Raghuram also slammed Jyotika, Gayathri is quite vocal about her right-wing views on social media. Though Jyotika did not say to stop people from donating to temples, her words were moulded and turned into a communal statement. Actor Suriya, who is also famous for his work in the field of education, went on to defend her wife by saying that humanity is above religion.
Suriya took to Twitter and stated – “Even if trees stay calm, the wind doesn’t let them stay the same. My wife’s speech at an award function has been doing the rounds on social media and has led debates as well. Her opinion asking people to donate to schools and hospitals as much as temples are seen as a crime. I don’t understand why a certain section of people is offended by this. Many spiritual leaders, including Vivekanandar, had always insisted that humanity is bigger than any religion”.
He added – “My family fully stands with her opinion in the speech, which is inspired by the teachings of spiritual leaders. We wish to teach our children that humanity is more important than religion”. “I thank all those unknown people who supported us, while many were desperately trying their best to spoil our image”.
