AIB’s co-founder Tanmay Bhat has posted a video on Instagram opening about his clinical depression phase. His company was suspended last year when one of their associate comedians, Utsav Chakraborty, was accused of sending sexually explicit messages including minors.
One of those victims exposed the comedian by posting a thread on Twitter revealing all the accusations against Utsav. “I want everyone to know @Wootsaw is a piece of sh*t. He sent me a d**k pic, was creepy, then cried saying I’ll ruin his career if I tell others,” reads the Tweet. The user continued that she had “told two of the most influential men in comedy in India” about the incident, but “nothing happened.”
Tanmay knew about Utsav’s situation still didn’t speak about it. And hence, they had to shut the company amid all these revelations. Yesterday, Aditi Mittal who happens to be a famous stand-up comedian took a dig on Tanmay and said, he is just playing this depression victim card. In a series of tweets she wrote:
Damn. I remember when I had to hear on the set of a show that I was working on that I gave "tit access too soon" coz it was told by Tanmay Bhat to the 22 year old writers on that set.I spent a year saying no to work after that coz I was terrified I would have to hear that again.

I remember being slut shamed by Utsav Chakraborty, to a guy that said he liked me. He told the guy "Be careful of Aditi, she's been around." It's kind of why I felt so incredibly strongly for Mahima when she spoke up. Because I just couldn't bear to have MORE of this happen.

We've all been fucked over by life. But apparently depression is only newsworthy when someone who had a corporates throwing money at him stopped having money thrown at him.

The # of times I heard "BUT WHO ELSE CAN HELP US" reminded me of all the people who voted Modi coz they were convinced Rahul Gandhi was bad.

A prominent journalist told me that an open micer told him that I’m the Kangana Ranaout of comedy, like wow men LOVE to label women who speak up as unstable and themselves release articles about depression and sadness and how we should pity them. Chal na Chomu.

Like, if you want to play depression victim now, you please acknowledge the SYSTEM of 19-24 year olds with Macs and Twitter accounts, and men with VC funds that you were "friends" with that led to the depression of SO many young women who tried to do comedy at that time.

It’s not like AIB tickets weren’t selling out THREE DAYS after the call out by Mahima Chaudhary. Why the sympathy gathering tour then?

Aditi is India’s first female English stand-up comedian and was a part of AIB’s infamous roast panel back in 2014.
Meanwhile, Tanmay’s post has been garnering praise from fellow colleagues like Zakir Khan, Kaneez Surka and Bhuvan Bam.
