Note: It has been more than 5 months since theaters have been closed all over the nation due to ongoing pandemic. No film has released at the Box Office in this time period so our Box Office Review will take into consideration lesser factors then we take in normal conditions.

Our Box Office Review in the current situation doesn’t imply the accuracy it does in normal circumstances because we have no clue about the release size Sadak 2 would’ve got if it had hit the cinemas on August 28.

A film’s Box Office fate also depends on the real performance of films releasing before and after it. In the ongoing situation, we can’t take into consideration that factor too and that’s why in the Box Office Review of Sadak 2 we will roughly predict its BO prospects and how much theatrical revenue the film may have lost because of not being able to hit the big screens.

Sadak 2 Box Office Review: Expectations

Back in 1991, Sadak proved to be a huge hit at the box office. The film wasn’t just among Sanjay Dutt’s top grossers but also the highest-grossing films of that year. With a business of 6.25 crores, it was 5th highest-grossing film of 1991. No doubt, it was the sequel of Sadak which encouraged Mahesh Bhatt to make a comeback in the industry as a director!

Now in 2020, Sanjay Dutt isn’t a huge power at the box office but Alia Bhatt is. The talented and gorgeous actress has given big hits like Raazi & Gully Boy in her recent past. Both of these films surprised big time when they crossed 100 crores mark at the box office. Apart from that, she has also proved her crowd-pulling strength with films like 2 States, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Kapoor & Sons, Udta Punjab.

Aditya Roy Kapur has his own fan following. His last film Malang proved to be decent at the box office. If not huge, he certainly adds some face value to the film.

So counting in the franchise value & star power of Alia Bhatt as big positives, and Sanjay Dutt + Aditya Roy Kapur as moderate ones, there are a couple of negatives too. The trailer of the film didn’t create the impression it was supposed to. Forget the number of dislikes it got due to a certain campaign, it genuinely didn’t promise anything interesting to the audience. Music is another letdown.

Overall, Sadak 2 doesn’t carry many expectations and it just relies on the power of the final product (which again will help only if it’s good).

Sadak 2 Box Office Review: Impact

Sadak 2 is made with good intentions but there seems to be no hard work that has been put in while writing the film. Mahesh Bhatt was once known as a filmmaker who was ahead of his time. But after watching Sadak 2 it looks like his growth as a filmmaker stopped after a point.

As I mentioned above, the intentions behind the film are good and so is its deep philosophy. But that doesn’t help a bit when you put no effort into making it a good watch. If the story of the film is ordinary, its storytelling is dated. While watching Sadak 2 you will feel like watching so many 90s movies together.

I won’t say there are no takers of revenge stories but you have to take care of the sensibilities of the audience you are making the film for. The film doesn’t do justice to the very audience it has been made for. There’s no point in the film where you feel really moved or shaken. It doesn’t just grip the audience! And on top of that, there’s so much stuff which puts you off. For example, some very loud and irritating characters, wasted villains, excessive use of ‘Sadak’. This movie, in fact, does the crime of wasting talented actors Alia Bhatt and Makarand Deshpande. Sanjay Dutt is good but only to a certain extent. Jisshu Sengupta has an interesting role to play but when there’s so much bad about a film, it’s tough to surpass that.

Overall, the film scores very low as far as the impact is concerned.

Sadak 2 Box Office Review: Final Verdict

Vishesh Films has been lucky that Sadak 2 was bought by Disney+Hotstar for direct OTT release. If the film had hit the box office, it would’ve been a washout.

Sadak 2 Movie Review: Sanjay Dutt & Alia Bhatt Abduct You To A Journey You Wish To Have Skipped

What’s Good: Good that Mahesh Bhatt retained Sanjay Dutt and didn’t go all-new with the cast, Alia adds value to the acting department

What’s Bad: All the investors of this industry, please repeat this ten times after me – WE WON’T INVEST MONEY IN FILMS THAT ARE REMADE JUST FOR THE SAKE OF IT! (I’m counting)

Loo Break: If not for Sanjay and Alia, this movie would’ve been a loo break I had to take while watching Bobby Deol’s Aashram.

Watch or Not?: I just have one question for the director – Mahesh ‘But’ Why? Also, watch it only for the performances

User Rating:

We have Aarya (Alia Bhatt) who seems to be mentally disturbed but she isn’t and her parents, who don’t seem to be mentally disturbed but they’re. Aarya is looking for revenge of a certain thing that unfolds later in the story. She decides to spend her 21st birthday at Kailash Mansarovar and gets Ravi (Sanjay Dutt) as her driver. Before picking up her boyfriend Vishal (Aditya Roy Kapur) from Central Jail, Aarya opens up her secrets to Ravi.
While Vishal feels uncomfortable sharing the cab with Ravi, Aarya develops a fatherly bond with him. Before reaching Kailash, Aarya’s secrets create a ruckus and mess up the trip. Ravi gets involved in this family revenge saga and decides to help Aarya. Those who are watching Bollywood since the 90s will indeed predict what happens next.

Sadak 2 Movie Review: Script Analysis

The movie ends with the song ‘Shukriya’ and that kind of sums my exact feelings for it. Ironically both Aashram and Sadak 2 have fake godmen as the major crux of their story. I couldn’t stop but wonder, why Bhatt Sahab didn’t cast Bobby Deol as the fraud Guruji and named it as Sadak Par Aashram? Jokes apart, Mahesh Bhatt and Sumitra Sengupta’s story holds the primary responsibility in making this as an inferior product.
Jay I. Patel’s camerawork offers nothing out-of-the-box and instead follow the age-old basics. I don’t know if it was a conscious decision, but the film reminds you too many times that it’s titled as Sadak. Already half-baked dialogues are forced to accommodate the word ‘Sadak’ in them. “Bhagwan hamare saath hai, iss sadak par,” says Alia Bhatt in a scene, and that’s when I knew where did he go after leaving me to watch Aashram and Sadak 2 back to back.

Sadak 2 Movie Review: Star Performance

Sanjay Dutt is brilliant when it comes to emotional scenes, and that works both in favour and against him. Why against? Because he has not much to do apart from being emotional. Only if Bhatt Sahab would’ve modified his character according to the time.
Alia Bhatt stands tall in front of Dutt’s towering presence but faces a similar character sketching issue. We know she can act well, but Bhatt Sahab keeps forcing that at your face, which after a point gets monotonous. Definitely not her best, but also not the worst.
Though Aditya Roy Kapur is the loverboy but, in reality, he’s the third-wheel to the story with Sanjay and Alia. He does what he’s asked to, but the problem here is he isn’t asked to do much. Makrand Deshpande enters on a promising note but stays a caricature till the end. Jisshu Sengupta is just about decent. Gulshan Grover is wasted and so his 80s name – Dilip Haathkatta (because he has one of his hands slashed). He manages to ‘single-handedly’ ruin his role.

Sadak 2 Trailer Review: I Would Like To Hope It's A Case Of Bad Dream
Sadak 2 Trailer Review: I Would Like To Hope It’s A Case Of Bad Dream

Mahesh Bhatt’s comeback film as a director, the sequel to his classic romantic film Sadak is among the most awaited films of this year. Sadak 2 stars Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt along with Alia Bhatt & Aditya Roy Kapur and that make it even more special.

The trailer of Sadak 2 has been finally released today but sadly it disappoints big time.

Sadak 2 is one film which I was desperately waiting for. Apart from all the above-mentioned reasons, I wanted to watch it to see how Mount Kailash has been used in the film. From a couple of posters that were earlier released, it looked like Mount Kailash is also one of the characters of the film and so is the ‘Sadak‘ that goes towards it. But what I saw today is very disappointing.

First of all, the trailer of Sadak 2 seems to be very hurriedly cut. There seems to be some issue with sound record or dubbing. It’s not that it’s unsynchronous, but doesn’t match the mainstream Bollywood film standards. Then the story of the film looks pretty ordinary. We have seen too many stories about fraud babas already so if there’s nothing special to add to that, what was the reason behind making this film? As far as the trailer is concerned, it doesn’t promise anything special about the story. There are emotions but they don’t connect at all. The love story doesn’t seem to have any soul which was a must. Alia Bhatt has been wasted like never before. Pooja Bhatt – We see only a picture of her hanging on the wall. There’s nothing good about Sanjay Dutt and Aditya Roy Kapur either in the trailer. I hate myself for saying that.

I have hopes from the music of the film but from the trailer, even that doesn’t look promising.

Overall, Sadak 2 trailer is a letdown. I can’t even believe this is the trailer of Sadak 2 and just hope it’s a case of a bad dream.
