Happy Mother’s Day 2020! Mother, a character every filmmaker edges by his/her understanding and feeling of and about it. For ages, she has been a giver and the most patient out of all. But a revolution in Hollywood brought us some badass moms who fought the world, narrate their stories, be at the forefront and we thank them for that.
From Meryl Streep giving a new definition to the character in Mamma Mia to Hellen Parr in The Incredibles, who did not like to leave the saving of the world to just men, mothers have surely taken the driver’s seat in this ride.
As we celebrate Mother’s Day today let’s have a look at 5 badass moms in Hollywood:
Mildred Hayes (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri):
What does grief do to you? How will you avenge injustice that happened towards your child? Mildred Hayes played by the perfect Frances McDormand tops this list for doing what she does. Mildred has nothing to lose, she sets out on a journey to avenge her daughter’s rape and murder and she does and how. I do not want to spoil this one for you, but this is the best revenge plan you might ever witness.

Rosie (Jojo Rabbit):
Rosie, as her name suggests is a beating heart amid the society that has replaced it with a rock. Set in the times of Nazi rule, Jojo Rabbit stars Scarlett Johansson as Rossie, mother to a young boy in love with the Nazi ideology. She tries to take her child to a path that teaches love and inclusivity but meets a bad fate. But her absence teaches Jojo a lesson that leads to one of the most cathartic climaxes.
Marmee March (Little Women)
They say Mothers are always inspiring and Laura Dern as Marmee March in Little Women surely is. Set in an era after the Civil War, Little Women is about the state of women in society. While their worlds are confined to be limited, Marmee teaches her daughters to act without expectations. She never lets them learn what pity is. And for a mother who lets her daughters take the centre stage in that era, Marmee wins our heart.
Sarah Connor (Terminator)
Okay, this is cult. Every time we talk about badass moms in Hollywood, Sarah Connor played by Linda Hamilton will have a mention. Sarah isn’t the usual mom, rather she is a mom with a machine gun bringing her enemies to the ground, to save her son. Her strength and the gist to save and train him won million hearts and the character is loved.
Molly Weasley (Harry Potter)
Raise your hands if you already know the scene we are talking about. Molly Weasley played by the adorable Julie Walters, is one of the cutest characters in the Potter Universe. But, don’t be fooled by the cuteness, if you are unversed, this lady is an expert witch who defeated Death Eater and Bellatrix Lestrange after the latter was after her daughter’s life. This scene from the Battle Of Hogwarts is treasured in our minds forever.
