The news is all over. Saif Ali Khan is stepping into a political thriller which would be directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. However the actor insists that unlike his earlier foray into films that have touched upon such themes and genres, this yet untitled dramatic thriller would be indeed different.
“During last few years Saif has delved into this genre with Agent Vinod and Kurbaan. While former was a comic boom popcorn affair, latter was a relatively much serious drama. Unfortunately none of the two could do well even though Saif was mighty excited about their fortune. However his subsequent films like Cocktail and Race 2, where he was seen in an expected zone, did well. For him to revert to a film that dealt with a politics and contemporary issues that are plaguing the globe, it was a tough call indeed. However, he went with what Kabir and Sajid had to offer,” informs a source.

Apparently, he was convinced with the fact that despite the theme of the film being indeed different, the approach promised by Kabir and Sajid was inherently commercial, hence staying away from catering to only niche audience.

“Kabir has shown that in the past,” says Saif, “He has made movies with political undertones and yet they have every bit of the kind of ingredients that should appeal to audience at large. The one that we are working on would have fairly gritty kind of action. It would also have some kind of geo-political relevance in terms of global terrorism.”
Remind him of the fact that his Kurbaan especially had taken a similar route as well and he quips, “Well, a lot of films had been made on that subject before Kurbaan came out. Moreover, Kurbaan was not a Sajid Nadiadwala film. This man thinks commercial. My film with him and Kabir would be much more exciting.”
