Now ‘Iron Man’ Takes On ‘Aashiqui’ In Musical Arena

A few days it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. was readying himself to take on Sunny Deol as his Iron Man 3 was pitched to clash with I Love New Year. While that clash has been averted, an even more unlikely competition has come in the form of Aashiqui 2, which has occupied the slot that was originally meant for the Sunny Deol-Kangana Ranaut starrer.

Interestingly, though the Downey affair may seem like an out and out action outing, there is actually something in common with Aashiqui 2 and that too from the music perspective.

“Ironically, while Aashiqui 2 is a musical, it hasn’t retained any of the songs from the score put together by Nadeem-Shravan in Aashiqui, that is actually the case with Iron Man 3. Despite being a high octane action affair, it has a song from the original soundtrack of Iron Man that has been retained”, comments an observer.

The song in question happens to be Black Sabbath’s cult hit Iron Man.

Adds a source, “Iron Man has had some great soundtrack for all the instalments that have released. The title track Iron Man is a classic no less. Now the idea is to include all classic sound-tracks and background scores as a tribute to the film.”

On the other hand for Aashiqui 2, the makers (Bhatts) were clear that the music had to be entirely fresh with no reference whatsoever from past or present.

“This is the reason why they roped in composers like Jeet Ganguly, Mithoon and Ankit Tiwari to come up with a soundtrack. Their sheer sensibilities are entirely different from what Nadeem-Shravan carried. Moreover, the core essence of the soundtrack has seen a shift as well. Yes, melody is retained but one can’t compare the music of Aashiqui 2 with Aashiqui“, the observer adds.

This isn’t quite the case with Iron Man 3 though which does pick up sounds from Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

“When you have a true franchise film, it is expected that the music would have at least one or two similar streaks. You can’t expect a Dhoom:3 without the sound of Dhoom Machale, right”, quips a filmmaker.
