Cop dramas have become very common nowadays and Mumbai Mirror seems to be another one in the same genre with a twist in the form of suspense factor that has been woven in the script. With no star power to boast of, film solely depends on the storyline and the actors. Even expectations from music of such movies are not high as most of the tracks are situational with one item track and a romantic track as fixtures. It applies for this movie as well. There are five original tracks composed by Anand Raj Anand and Amjad Nadeem.
Doom Pe Lakdi – Mumbai Mirror Music Review
Album begins with Doom Pe Lakdi rendered by a group of singers like Sukhwinder Singh, Sachiin J Joshi, Nadeem Khan, Preeti-Pinky, Farhan Sabri, Mamta Raaut, Rahul Pandit and Lalit Sippy. It’s a total Mumbaiya song, which is being used to establish the protagonist. Though there are lots of singers with varied experience, the track lacks the punch and ends up being another one of the mixed jamboree.
Marjawa – Mumbai Mirror Music Review
Master of love songs, Sonu Nigam, makes an entry with Marjawa. It seems as if the track has been made exclusively for him. He adds his velvety voice to the catchy music and delivers a hit. There is a female version of the same song by Bengali singer Sayantani Das of Mujhe Rang De fame. She adds the required charm and sexiness to the romantic track in her version. Shabbir Ahmed’s lyrics do an apt job of communicating the feelings with good choice of words, especially the Punjabi effect in both the versions. Both the versions can be tagged as the best tracks in the album.
Govinda Ala Re – Mumbai Mirror Music Review
Wajid Ali makes an entry as a singer with Govinda Ala Re. Movie has Mumbai as its backdrop, so it’s not a surprise to find this song in the album. Track keeps the tempo of the earlier tracks. It is a fun filled song with interesting lyrics like Sun Madhubala Hum Hain Gopala Apni Hero Mein Aati Hai Ginti. However there are better tracks written for the same situation and this one falls short of becoming one of them.
Thumka – Mumbai Mirror Music Review
Next in line is Thumka which is rendered by none other than Shreya Ghosal. She is on a roll after Radha from Student Of The Year. She tries to add the same naughtiness and fun in this track but fails, as the lyrics and music are clichéd and do not offer anything new. Satya Prakash’s lyrics and Anand Raj music don’t do justice to her voice, hence resulting in an average track.
Blunder – Mumbai Mirror Music Review
Anand Raaj Anand makes another attempt in the album through Blunder. Ritu Pathak of Jalebi Bai fame lends her voice to the track. It is a front seat track and honestly there have been a lot of them in recent times and this one just adds to the list. Even Naveen Tyagi’s lyrics are not extraordinary and just serve the purpose of fulfilling the requirement of an item number in the cop drama.
The Last Word – Mumbai Mirror Music Review
Over all it is an album, which has one or two sparks but nothing consequential for listeners to remember it for. Amajad-Nadeem make a good attempt with Marjawa though rest of the album leaves a lot to be desired.
