Imtiaz Ali’s Highway is a full blown version of an episode he had directed for Zee TV’s series Rishtey way back in 2000. The 45 minute short film capsule, Ali made for Television a decade ago became the groundwork to lay a full length feature film on.

The story of the telefilm that had the same name was an unusual romance tale. Imtiaz Ali way back then knew that this plot had greater potential in it. He says, “A story of two opposite people united by fate, I had done a a 45-minute capsule for Rishtey on Zee Tv. I was not satisfied. I felt that the story needed to be told on a bigger scale. It had the power and magnificence to become a full-blown movie.”

Imtiaz Ali added, ” However, I am actually glad that it did not happen at that time. More than a decade later, the story is still with me. I think I understand the story much better now and am in a better position to make the film version.”

Aiming for a 13th December, 2013 release, the film stars Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. The film is shot extensively in Kashmir is expected to be one of the year’s most quaintly pleasant releases.
