Bollywood Goes To Japan

It was meant to be a huge marketing coup with Salman Khan opening up the hitherto dormant Japanese market for Bollywood with a nationwide release of Yash Raj Film’s Ek Tha Tiger.

However, now, in what appears to be a hasty and clever business manoeuvre, Eros International has announced the Japanese release of their 2007 Shah Rukh Khan blockbuster Om Shanti Om on 16th March, 2013.

Titled Koi Suru Rinne, with Japanese subtitles, Om Shanti Om would get a 15-print release across Japan on March 16.

This Aamir Khan-R.Madhvan-Sahrman Joshi film, 3 Idiots, broke My Name Is Khan‘s record and became the highest grossing film overseas when released in China in December 2011. We wonder, what will happen when the film releases in Japan this year.

English Vinglish Movie Cantonese Poster

Well, yes this is not a Japanese Poster. But, this weekend English Vinglish is releasing in seven screens in Hong Kong with Cantonese subtitles, with 29 shows a day, this is the widest opening any Indian film has ever got in Hong Kong. What’s also interesting is they are also screening the film at ‘The Directors Club’ screen, which is like Red lounge and Hindi films are not released in these screens ideally
