Recently, at the Golden Globes Awards, Joaquin Phoenix won an award for his performance in Joker. However, it was not his win that grabbed the headlines that day, it was his hard-hitting speech regarding global warming and Australia fires that became the topic of discussion.
In his speech, he thanked the organisers of the Golden Globes for going vegan this year. The ‘Her’ actor also called out the hypocrisy of Hollywood celebs in his speech. Joaquin had said, “It’s really nice that so many people have come up and sent their well wishes to Australia, but we have to do more than that, right? … It’s great to vote, but sometimes we have to take that responsibility on ourselves and make changes and sacrifices in our own lives and hope that we can do that. We don’t have to take private jets to Palm Springs for the awards sometimes or back, please.”
Well, it wasn’t just words and the actor acted upon them and joined protests for nature. Now the latest reports mention that Joaquin Phoenix and Martin Sheen, who were a part of Jane Fonda’s Fire Drill Friday climate change protest have been arrested. The protest took place at Washington DC.

As reported by CNN, the arrest was made this week along with 147 people from the protest and they all were charged with crowding, obstructing or incommoding. At the protest venue, Joaquin Phoenix gave another speech before the arrest happened. The actor said, “I struggle so much with what I can do [to combat climate change] at times. There are things that I can’t avoid — I flew a plane out here today, or last night rather. But one thing that I can do is change my eating habits.”
So far, these are the only updates that have come from the protests and post the arrest.
