Rampage India Box Office: Dwayne Johnson’s Film Takes A Fair Start

Rampage starring Dwayne Johnson has taken a fair start at the Box-Office in India as the film raked in approximately Rs 2.65 crore on its opening day. The collections of the film are decent considering the fact that it was a limited release and didn’t have the additional source of revenue that Hollywood films usually generate in India via 3D release.

The film has fared the best in South India, followed by Mumbai and Delhi. Apart from English, the film has released in Hindi dubbed version as well, and the reports from mass centres like Nagpur, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, suggest that the film is working for the masses and the footfalls for Hindi dubbed version which were quite low on the opening day would escalate over the weekend.

The critic reviews are mixed, however the audience report across the globe including India is one the positive side as the film belongs to the category of an un-bashed larger than life entertainer.

The major credit for the opening day collections in India goes to the popularity of Dwyane Johnson who is unarguably one of the biggest movie stars in the world today. The film has opened much better than most of the Hollywood films that release in India, apart from the Marvel Films and other big Hollywood Franchise like Fast and Furious, Jurassic World to name a few. The audience word of mouth should takeover from today and Rampage is now looking to touch the double-digit mark in its opening weekend.

An opening weekend around Rs 10.00 crore would be a fair result for the film and with no-competition in India till the release of  Avengers: Infinity War on 27th April, the film should record a steady run at the Box-Office, and reach a respectable total. Johnson’s last release, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle had recorded a better start in India however that was because of the strong recall value of earlier film with the same name. The opening day collections of Jumanji were around Rs 4.10 crore and that was despite the competition from Salman Khan’s Christmas 2017 blockbuster, Tiger Zinda Hai.

Jumanji recorded a positive trend at the Box-Office in India and ended its run at collections above Rs 30 crore. It would be interesting to see where Rampage eventually lands as far as the collections are concerned.
