We’ve always seen Velma as the brainiac helping to solve the mysteries in Scooby-Doo series with the gang. Donning a baggy orange turtleneck, short red pleated skirt, knee socks, Mary Jane shoes, and a pair of square glasses, Velma has been a pivotal part of the team since its existence.
2002 saw the release of Scooby-Doo the film which was directed by Raja Gosnell and penned by the man behind Guardians Of The Galaxy, James Gunn. James recently revealed that he wrote Velma’s character differently.

In 2001 Velma was explicitly gay in my initial script.” The user had asked, “Please make our live-action lesbian Velma dreams come true.” James also added, “But the studio just kept watering it down & watering it down, becoming ambiguous (the version shot), then nothing (the released version) & finally having a boyfriend (the sequel).”

Sarah Michelle Gellar who played the role of Daphne in Scooby-Doo had also revealed that a kiss between Velma and Daphne was shot but edited out. While conversing with SciFi Wire in 2002, Sarah had said, “It wasn’t just, like, for fun. Initially, in the soul-swapping scene, Velma and Daphne couldn’t seem to get their souls back together in the woods. And so the way they found was to kiss and the souls went back into proper alignment.”
