Avengers: Infinity War Box Office Expectations: Well the wait is almost over! After a series of numerous highs and a couple of lows, the culmination of Marvel Studio’s work over the past decade, Avengers: Infinity War is set to hit theatres this Friday.
With so much hype surrounding the film, it’s not such a far-fetched idea to think that it might become the highest grossing film of all time. However, whether it can become the highest grossing Hollywood film in India is a different question.

Marvel has been steadily gaining popularity in India over the past few years, with its films raking in big bucks at the box office. With the unprecedented success of Black Panther, a hero practically unheard of in India, expectations are high for the upcoming film. While the 1st Avengers film, released in 2012 collected over 70 crores, 2015’s Avengers: Age Of Ultron surpassed it, recording collection of approximately 77 crores in India.
While many trade analysts predict that Avengers: Infinity War will cross the 100 crore mark in India, it is unlikely that the film will surpass 2016’s Jungle Book. But nothing can be said for sure. The film is anticipated to be released in over 2000 screens across India, a number unheard of for a Hollywood film.

In USA, the superhero flick is expected to surpass Star Wars: The Force Awakens to become the highest opening film in the country. However, it might be unable to make the same record globally, due to the film’s late release in two of the biggest movie markets in the world, China and Russia. It releases in Russia on May 3, and on May 11 in China, almost 2 weeks after its global release. However, it has managed to generate a lot of anticipation among the Chinese audience, unlike recent Hollywood films which have witnessed declining interest in China.
Avengers: Infinity War features an ensemble of A-list superstars like Robert Downey Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Tom Holland, Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston, amongst many others. It also features Thanos as the main antagonist of the film, played by Josh Brolin. Interestingly, the actor plays the antagonist in the upcoming superhero satire Deadpool 2.
