Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, apart from being in news for its unconventional box-office run, is also in the news for various other reasons too. The movie, loved by the audience, faced criticism for gun violence and various other controversial issues.
Now, the latest news is, in a screening held in Paris the cinema hall was evacuated when someone from the crowd shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’. This led to messy chaos which was uncontrollable.
According to a report published in The Sun, a ‘traumatised’ witness, named only as Victor, said: “Someone said (wrongly) that he had a weapon. There was total panic, these are images that I will not forget. People climbed over seats and women fell to the ground in the aisles, with others stepping over them.”

Joker tells the story of the popular DC supervillain of the same name. The film traces the protagonist’s early life as Arthur Fleck (essayed by Phoenix), who is an aspiring stand-up comedian struggling to make ends meet and constantly derided by society. The film, released in India by Warner Bros. Pictures, narrates how circumstances push Fleck into the path of crime after he fails to find his way in Gotham’s fractured society. During an interview with host Jimmy Kimmel, the actor was surprised by an outtake from his movie “Joker”, sent over to Kimmel’s show by director Todd Phillips.
The video showed an annoyed Phoenix sniping at the film’s cinematographer Lawrence Sher. Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker has become the second-biggest opening weekend of all time for an IMAX release after Avengers: Endgame. It is also the biggest opening weekend of 2019 for a Warner Bros. film, beating Annabelle Comes Home, which released in India in June and made around Rs 16.82 crore in its opening weekend.
