Lilly Wachowski On The Matrix: “I Love That How Meaningful The Movie Is To Trans People”

Every single film has a purpose and there are some pieces of work, which are understood by the fans over the period of years. Similar could be said about Keanu Reeves’ The Matrix. Recently, director and writer, Lilly Wachowski, made an interesting revelation about the film, which could have been decoded by a very few viewers.

The Matrix is one of the important landmarks in cinema due to a complex and innovative approach to the story. Recently, its maker, Lily spoke about its true purpose and importance. Being a trans woman herself, she explained the importance of such a meaningful work to the community.

During an interview in Netflix Film Club, Lilly Wachowski said, “I’m glad people are talking about The Matrix movies with a trans narrative. I love that how meaningful those movies are to trans people. People come up to me and say ‘Those movies saved my life’… I’m glad that it has gotten out that [a trans metaphor] was the original intention. But the world wasn’t quite ready, at a corporate level–the corporate world wasn’t ready for it.”

The Matrix maker added, “When you make movies it’s this public art form. I think any kind of art that you put out into the universe, there’s a letting-go process because it’s entering into the public dialogue. I like that – that there’s an evolution process that we as human beings engage in art in a non-linear way. That we can always talk about something in new ways and in new light…I think in our transness and queerness, we were always trying to, like, incorporate as many things as possible.”

Lilly Wachowski even addressed the fan theories on the Keanu Reeves starrer.
