Bollywood in 2013 despite witnessing an economic hilt like Chennai Express which has reigned over as the highest grossing film at the domestic box office, witnessed disastrous flops as well. Koimoi compiles for you the films which emerged as the most drooping flops of the year through – Bollywood Box Office Verdict: Major Flops Of 2013.
Zanjeer:
A lavish film made on a heavy budget of 60 crores could only make an income of 15 crores at the domestic box office. Suffering a lag of 45 crores, the film ranks as the biggest flop of the year so far. Releasing with a relatively smaller film namely YRF’s Shuddh desi Romance, the film wrapped up at the domestic arena within a week itself.
Zila Ghaziabad:
This Arshad Warsi, Sanjay Dutt starrer released with Abhishek Kapoor’s Kai Po Che! way back in February. Made on a budget of 36 crores, the film suffered a loss of 20 crores when its lifetime run settled at 16 crores only. Poor content along with a surprisingly good performance of Kai Po Che! despite the lack of any star value, the film was badly smashed at the Box Office.
Besharam:
This movie was supposed to launch actor Ranbir Kapoor in a never seen before avatar and truly for those who have watched the film, they swore they never want to see this avatar of the actor ever again. Resorting to commercial pressures, Ranbir accepted a film that had him fixing his crotch more than acting. Though Abhinav Kashyap had shown promise in Salman Khan’s Dabangg, Besharam was indeed a shameless effort from an actor who has better mettle for sure. Made on a budget of 75 crores, the film could only make 59.80 crores at the box office, hence suffering a loss of 15.20 crores at the domestic box office.
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobaara!:
Milan Luthria’s last Once Upon edition was an unforgettable film. This one too can termed as unforgettable, but in a widely different sense than the former reference. Reducing a stellar premise to a shabby love story, the film was dismissed by the audiences altogether. Made on a budget of 80 crores, the film could only make 65 crores therefore incurring a loss of nearly 15 crores. Unable to make any profit, the dampening factor was the grave disappointment of the audiences from the film.
Himmatwala:
Labelled as the year’s biggest dud,it turns out that the film fared much better than a few of its recent ones at the box office. made on a budget of 50 crores, the film by the conclusion its first week had made 45 crores. With a loss of 5 crores only, the film is a winner of sorts amongst those which flopped at the box office. May be now Sajid Khan can feel a little better.
Boss:
And more recently, it was Akshay Kumar’s Boss that joined the ranks of the biggest flops so far. Though an adequately Khiladi Kumar’s stunt filled, action film, Boss suffered a major blow at the box office due to engaging cricket match which is keeping the audiences glued to it. The film that is made on a heavy budget of 72 crores could only recover 54 crores so far hence running at a loss of 18 crores. Since Krrish 3 is out for release tomorrow, it isn’t hard to say that the film has almost wrapped up it box office run.
