Prior to release, it was pretty much on the cards that Yodha would take an opening in the range of 4-5 crores. The buzz for the film was decent, and with Sidharth Malhotra arriving in an out-and-out action role, there were expectations of decent footfalls on day 1 and then word of mouth taking it forward during the test of the weekend.

Of course, during pre-pandemic, such a genre of films with scale and setting like this could well have taken an opening in the range of 8-10 crores. However, these are different times when event films are taking bigger than ever openings, whereas the rest are seeing a fair to decent start and then growing based on audience feedback. What’s needed is some sort of platform, at least, because when films end up being in that 2-3 crores range on the first day, then there is no hope whatsoever of recovery.

In the case of Yodha, a start of 4.25 crores means that at least from here, one can expect added momentum to come in. Thankfully, it was seen during Friday evening itself when the footfalls increased rapidly compared to the morning and afternoon shows. This reflects that there is something in the content which is appealing to the audiences. Now, once that starts reflecting on a steady basis today and tomorrow, one can expect Yodha to manage a run for itself.
