Zoya Akhtar’s latest multi-starrer Dil Dhadakne Do recently hit the theaters and has been performing decently at the box office. While the film was touted to be an urban centric drama that would be consumed by a niche audience, surprisingly the film has managed to keep up a good pace at box office overall.

The film is currently in its second week and has collected 69.13 crores at the domestic box office till now. Interestingly, Dil Dhadakne Do has been performing much better than Zoya’s last film Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara.

Dil Dhadakne Do has been on the higher end of ZNMD since its start. While ZNMD opened with 7.50 crores, DDD made it to a double digit opening of 10.53 crores. Even on its first weekend, the film managed to collect 10 crores more than ZNMD. The family drama is making remarkable business at the multiplexes and is all set to reach the 70 crore mark by the end of the second week. In terms of critical appreciation, ZNMD had a lot of positive reviews but Dil Dadakne Do could not enjoy the same.

Facing a stiff competition from Singham in its second week, Zindagi Milegi Dobara slowed down and stood with a collection of 75 crores in three weeks but fortunately for Dil Dhadakne Do, the poor performance of Hamari Adhuri Kahani proved to be a positive factor. Yet, the lifetime collections of ZNMD was 90 crores which was commendable. Even though, Dil Dhadakne Do has been performing better all through, it seems difficult for the film to beat the lifetime collections of ZNMD which picked up more on word of mouth.

Post the release of ABCD 2 this week, there will be a screen crunch at the multiplexes as Jurassic World and Hamari Adhuri Kahani are still running in theaters. This may result in a drop in the collections of the film which could slow its pace to reach the 90 crore figure.
