Will Sanju Be The FIRST Real Bumper Opener For Ranbir Kapoor Since Besharam?

Ranbir Kapoor was at the peak of his career after being a part of back to back successful films like Barfi and Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani. With the two films, the actor built a goodwill among the multiplex audience, and was poised to be the biggest young superstar of India. Besharam was his next release after Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani, and it was Ranbir’s attempt to explore the commercial entertainer space – a genre loved by the heartland Indian audience.

However, after a promising start at the Box-Office, the film fizzled like never before. The Abhinav Kashyap directorial recorded a strong opening of Rs 21.56 crore in 2013, however wrapped up a little above Rs 55 crore in its lifetime run. Since Besharam, it has been a shaky route for Ranbir Kapoor as films like Roy, Bombay Velvet, Tamasha and Jagga Jasoos failed to do the trick at the Box-Office. Kapoor got some sort of respite in between in the form of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, however even that film could not truly utilize Ranbir’s reach among the audience as it collected just a little above Rs 110 crore at the ticket window. That apart, even the opening day collection of the film was just about good.

Ranbir’s career has lasted over 10 years in the industry and Besharam till date holds the record of being the biggest opener for the actor. The question here isn’t if it would break the opening day collection of Besharam or no, the question here with what margin will the film shatter the record.
