Three weeks after the arrival of Bajirao Mastani and Dilwale, finally there would be a new Hindi film hitting theaters. Wazir and Chauranga are the new releases of the week and are poles apart in terms of scale, setting and cast.

Let’s talk about Wazir first. The film has been in news for quite some time and the cast headed by Amitabh Bachchan and Farhan Akhtar makes it further interesting. However, even though none other than Vidhu Vinod Chopra has backed this one, the hype has been pretty controlled. For the first release of 2016, one would have expected a lot more buzz generated around the film. Moreover, when a Hindi film is arriving after a gap of three weeks, there is ample opportunity to scale up the hype.

Box Office - Wazir to open decent, Chauranga depends on word of mouth

Nevertheless, it could possibly be the strategy of the makers as they could well be looking at word of mouth doing the trick. Expect the opening in 30%-40% range.

Chauranga is the second release of the week and is surprisingly arriving with hardly any promotion. Produced by Onir and Sanjay Suri (My Brother Nikhil, Bas Ek Pal, I Am), the film has been active on social media, though its visibility in other media forums has been very restricted. The film gives an impression of a festival outing and would be entirely dependent on critical acclaim followed by word of mouth.

It can well be said that holdover release Bajirao Mastani would continue to have decent visibility in this week as well.
