'Guzaarish' Movie Poster, 'Harry Potter And The Deatlhy Hallows (Part I)' Movie Poster

The weekend box-office collections of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish were Rs. 14.25 crore (Rs. 142.5 million) nett. While the Ash-Hrithik starrer opened with Rs. 3.75 on Friday, its Saturday collections were just Rs. 4.75 crore. The Sunday collections of Guzaarish were marginally higher at Rs. 5.75 crore. This adds up to Rs. 14.25 crore for the whole opening weekend. The total budget of Guzaarish (including promotions) is estimated to be Rs. 75 crore (Rs. 750 million). This is certainly not good news for the film’s distributors (UTV) as they stand to lose money.

Film Friday Saturday Sunday Total
Guzaarish
(Cost Rs. 75 crore)
Rs. 3.75 crore Rs. 4.75 crore Rs. 5.75 crore Rs. 14.25 crore

This is quite poor because there were high expectations from the film, because it was Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s long awaited project and also because it brought together the hit jodi of Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan back to the screens again.

Last Friday’s (November 19) Hollywood release, Harry Potter And The Deatlhy Hallows (Part I) fared well in both the English and Hindi-dubbed versions. The total box-office collection of the film from both the versions stand at Rs. 16 crore (Rs. 160 million) nett. The other release last week, Shahrukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu, failed to have any impact over the weekend and is bound to sink.

As we had earlier reported, Golmaal 3 continued with a strong second week, while a majority of other films floundered at the box-office.
