Yash Raj Films announced that their upcoming mega budget period drama, Thugs Of Hindostan will hit the big screen on the day Post-Diwali i.e. 8th November 2018. Several films in the past have set opening day records on the day Post-Diwali, and Thugs Of Hindostan is expected carry forward the tradition. Starring Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Katrina Kaif and Fatima Sana Shaikh in lead, the movie is expected to be the first Bollywood film to rake in Rs 50 crore on its opening day.
Without any doubts, Thugs Of Hindostan will be the widest release of all time and the makers would be targeting to block more than 4500 screens across India, which includes 21 IMAX screens. The total potential of all the screens put together would be anywhere between of Rs 70 to 75 crore. While it would would be impractical to expect the film to record an 100% occupancy through-out the day, it would be looking to record occupancy of 70 to 80% and the same should ensure an opening in the range of Rs 50 to 55 crore. A higher number could also be possible, however that depends on a lot of factors i.e. trailer, songs, screen count and show count, which depends on run-time of the film.
Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju starring Ranbir Kapoor in lead raked in Rs 48 crore on its third day thereby recording the biggest single day collection of all time in Bollywood. With Aamir Khan returning on the big screen after 2 years, Rs 50 crore would be a bare minimum expectation as far as opening is concerned, and the 4-day extended weekend should be anywhere between Rs 145 to 155 crore. A detailed prediction on the opening day as well as weekend would be out in the release week, however anything below the above-mentioned numbers though a great result would be a little disappointing given the high standards set by Aamir Khan for himself over the years. Opening Day and Weekend aside, the trade is also expecting the period drama to emerge an all time grosser and become the first Bollywood film to rake in over Rs 400 crore at the domestic Box-Office.
