The year has so far seen 5 super hits such as Ek Villain, 2 States, Queen, Yaariyaan and Ragini MMS 2 and 6 films that made over 100 crore business, out of which one did over 200 crores business.

Directors Who Got It Right
Its all about the Midas touch of the director that makes a film reach unbelievable milestones. One director who seems to have struck gold with some magic potion to churn out superhits is Rohit Shetty. The director currently has 5 films in the 100 crore club which includes, Singham, Golmaal 3, Bol Bachchan, Chennai Express and now Singham Returns.
Second to Rohit Shetty comes A.R Murugadoss who gave Bollywood the first 100 crore film, Aamir Khan starrer Ghajini. The director now has two 100 crore films under his belt including this year’s Akshay Kumar starrer Holiday.
Interestingly, a trend can be seen among the debut directors who have the struck the 100 crore chord with their first film itself. These include, Sajid Nadiadwala with Kick, Arbaaz Khan with Dabangg 2, Siddique with Bodyguard, Abhinav Kashyap with Dabangg. Also not to forget, Karan Malhotra with Agneepath, A.R.Murugadoss with Ghajini and Abhishek Verman with 2 States.

In the A-lister actors who have starred in films that made it to the 100 and 200 crore clubs, Salman Khan has the highest ranking with 7 films in 100 crores. Also Ajay devgn has 5 films, Shah Rukh Khan has 4 films and Akshay Kumar, Aamir Khan and Riteish Deshmukh have 3 films each in the 100 crore club. Among other stars, Abhishek Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, John Abraham and Vivek Oberoi have 2 films each. While actors who made it to the 100 crore banner only once include, Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Sidharth Malhotra and Saif Ali Khan.

In the A-lister actresses, Kareena Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha have a maximum of 5 films in the 100 crore club. Other actresses such as Priyanka Chopra, Asin, Deepika Padukone have 4 films where as Katrina Kaif and Jacqueline Fernandez have 3 films in the 100 crore club. In the one timers list are newbies Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Daisy Shah, Kajal Aggarwal.
Yearly Analysis Of Films Crossing The 100 Crores
Interestingly, Bollywood seems to be booming as the current trends show that the number of films making record businesses is growing at a good pace year by year. While Ghajini was the first film to pull off this feat in 2008, the year after too saw one film cross the 100 crore banner and since it has been on the rise. 2010 had two films, 2011 had 5 films and 2012 had as many as 9 films cross the big figure.
Last year, i.e 2013 saw 8 films making it to the 100 crore club and this year in just six months, we have six movies already achieving this feat. While big releases such as SRK’s Happy New Year, Aamir’s PK and Hrithik’s Bang Bang are yet to release, it seems this year could easily see at least 10 films making the big business. The surprise element this time seems to be that young stars have made it big. Films such as 2 States and Ek Villain were surprise earners of the big buck.
