It was predicted in this column that Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya will open in the 7-8 crores range. This is what happened as the film brought in 7.02 crores on the first day. Of course, a center point of the range would have been even better, but then, as long as it didn’t get into that 6-6.50 crores zone, it was going to be a safe start for the film.
The genre has its limitations as a much bigger Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar with a bigger cast and an established director with an all-around chartbuster soundtrack also opened to just around double this score last year [15.73 crores]. From that perspective, what Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya has done is at par.
The Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon starrer, was always meant to open on a decent note and then grow on the basis of word of mouth during evening and night shows. Hence, it wasn’t surprising when the film kept seeing better and better footfalls as the day progressed. That said, the release of the film is much wider than what the genre warrants. A much tighter release at maybe 50%-75% of the allocated screens would have made the occupancy look even brighter. Nonetheless, Saturday has now opened on a positive note for Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and seems to be heading for 10 crores.
