Last week’s release, Shaitan, made a total of Rs. 3.40 crore (34 million) in all-India net collection in its first weekend (June 10-12).
The worst part was it’s slow start on Friday (net collection: Rs. 80 lakh). The film did slightly better on Saturday (net collection: Rs. 1.10 crore). Saturday’s box-office collections in Bombay and nearby areas got spoilt due to the heavy rains there. Collections picked up on Sunday (Rs. 1.50 crore). However, the slight jump in collections was limited to a few select multiplexes in the cities only.
The other two Bollywood releases of last week, West Is West and Love Express, opened to poor houses on Friday and did dismal business over the weekend.
