Hansal Mehta’s Shahid that was 2012’s most enrapturing film at Mumbai Film Festival saw a commercial release this weekend. Based on the life of slain Human Rights lawyer Shahid Azmi, the film encapsulated convincingly an interestingly told story. The film on its opening weekend earned in the range of 1.75 crores at the domestic box office.

It won’t be surprise if the film caters only to the multiplex audiences given the premise of its story and the manner of storytelling. Seems the cinematic palate of modern Indian audiences is shifting towards a more out-of-the-box with films like The Lunchbox faring endearingly well, there is great scope of Shahid to do well at the domestic box office too!
