Bollywood has no dearth of superstars as newer ones emerge to fit in with the older stars.2012 and 2013 has seen major box office upheavals with ground breaking trends formulating and with that superstar hierarchies in Bollywood have been reset.
Taking into account the lucrative Indian Film Industry, the valuation of our superstars definitely depend on the box office moolah they rake up. In the last few years, Salman Khan with his Dabangg like prowess conquered the box office with every flick he delivered! With each film, his star value swelled manifolds and the actor reigned all powerful at the box office. His last film Ek Tha Tiger which made a lifetime collections of 198 croresat the box office ranks 3rd Highest Bollywood Grosser of all times.

While Salman Khan has managed to reign the Indian market in the domestic circuits, in the global zones it has been Shah Rukh Khan weighing heavier than most of his contemporaries. His Eid release Chennai Express has evolved as a box office trendsetter of sorts as the film has easily earned over 211 crores at the domestic box office and earned in the range of 16 millions in the key circuits overseas.
Also joining the league of the stellar stars this year, was Ranbir Kapoor, who with Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani entered the elite league of superstars. Releasing on a non-holiday, his film entered the 100 crore club in a week and settled for lifetime run of over 190 crores at the box office. One of the many reasons why YJHD was a hit is because of the candyfloss romance that Bollywood hadn’t seen in a while.
While all the actors above can claim to have a license of entertainment, it is perhaps only Aamir Khan whose films are necessarily powerful in content. 3 Idiots with its overwhelming box office numbers both in the domestic circles and overseas, Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots was surpassed from the Top Domestic Grossers by Chennai Express recently but in Overseas, the film still has the highest earnings.
Though actors like Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn have great enamor and fan following in India, as stars they are less established overseas. Given the decades the Khans have put in the industry, their enigma is unbeatable. And despite Akshay and Ajay, even Hrithik having films in the 100 crore club, their popularity worldwide is hardly as overwhelming as the Khans or Ranbir because of which their films fare average in the overseas circuits.
