Scary Start!

It would shock the trade to know how the films of this week have opened. Sadiyaan, produced and directed by Raj Kanwar, who has in the past made such successes and hits as DeewanaJeet, Judaai, Laadla, Jaan and Daag – The Fire, took a dismal opening on 2nd April. Collections were as low as 10-12% of the capacities. Kabir Sadanand may be a relatively new director (his previous film was Popcorn Khao! Mast Ho Jao) but that is no reason why hisTum Milo Toh Sahi should have started off on such a low note on Friday. The first day’s collections were no more than 15-25%. Sanjay Gupta seems to have created a record of sorts as producer because two films of his, viz. Pankh and The Great Indian Butterfly (English) opened simultaneously this week. Before this, director David Dhawan has had two releases together. Anyway, each of Gupta’s films couldn’t manage even a 10% occupancy in cinemas. The only film this week which saw at least some crowds was the Hollywood film, Clash Of The Titans, and its dubbed Hindi version, Mahayudh – Clash Of The Titans.
