2015 saw the rise of a global superstar. Prabhas turned a box office riot by playing Baahubali in the SS Rajamouli film. A sequel to the film in 2017, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion earned 1800 crore worldwide. However, the Baahubali image turned into a bane for the Telugu superstar, who had to bear the brunt of his stardom.

Baahubali put the pedestal so high for the superstar that he crumbled badly. Since he turned into a pan-India star, he suddenly had to cater to the North Indian sensibilities as well, making sure that his Telugu fans were also happy.

Maintaining the north-south balance was way too difficult for Prabhas, and he shattered with his next three films at the box office – Saaho, Radhe Shyam, and recently released, criticized Adipurush.

A lot is at stake with Prabhas’s upcoming biggie, Kalki 2898 AD. The Nag Ashwin film is a sci-fi film that also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Disha Patani. The initial glimpses confirm that it is a film set in a dystopian future, but a lot is at stake with the film for Prabhas’s career in particular.

Prabhas’s Box Office Loss

The Baahubali superstar has faced massive losses with his last three releases. An old report by Telugu 360 confirms that Adipurush faced a massive loss of 85 crore only in South Indian territories. Radhe Shyam faced a 110 crore loss, and Saaho accounted for a 65 crore loss. A total of 200+ crore loss.

Adding to Adipurush’s total loss, which alone is almost 225 crore according to various reports, Prabhas needs to be very sure of what he does next at the box office!

Kalki 2898 AD’s Huge Budget

The major problem with Prabhas’s next Kalki 2898 AD is yet again the budget of the film. The sci-fi drama is mounted on a budget of a whopping 600 crore. The film is currently on the right track with reports of phenomenal OTT deals and distribution rights, which might recover most of its budget very early. But nailing the box office yet again will still be Prabhas’ master task.

Moreover, his last hit was in 2017 with Baahubali 2. Meanwhile, his redemption arc is necessary for the Hindi audiences as well, who have felt cheated by Adipurush, who collected surprisingly 143 crore at the Hindi box office but still was a flop owing to the huge budget.

Is Prabhas’s Fee The Problem?

Meanwhile, one has to look into what is causing these films to cost 600 – 700 crore. A major reason might be the Baahubali superstar’s fee, which is reported to be in the range of 100 – 120 crore!
