Looks like Varun Dhawan starrer October is showing promise at the box office after all. After an adequate opening day, the film witnessed great growth during its 1st weekend as most films of this genre tend to, owing to good word of mouth. While it is unable to reach the same level of success as the actor’s other films, it’s a far cry from being called a failure.
On Sunday, the film collected 7.74 crores, similar to it’s Saturday collection of 7.47 crores. The film currently stands at a grand total of 20.25 crores. However, with its tight budget, the film wouldn’t be too worried about earning profits at the box office.

While the numbers might not be that great for the Shoojit Sircar directorial, the film makes up for it with the amazing reviews it has received from critics as well as its audience, resulting in a positive word of mouth. This will greatly help the film maintain a steady growth over the weekdays. Currently, October has managed to surpass other films in this niche genre like Lootera, which recorded an opening weekend of 19 crores and Finding Fanny, which collected 19.90 crores in its 1st weekend.
However, it failed to overtake the actor’s 2015 film Badlapur, which earned 24 crores in its 1st weekend, and Barfi, which towers above the rest, at 34.60 crores collected in its 1st weekend. October is currently Varun Dhawan’s lowest opener at 20.25 crores, ranked below his 2014 film Main Tera Hero, which earned 21 crores at the box office during its 1st weekend.

Talking about his experience working in such a film in an interview with Indiawest the actor said, “I was feeling as if I was a part of Shoojit’s family of partner Ronnie and writer Juhi Chaturvedi and was being taken care of – Banita Sandhu (the leading lady) and I were the only newcomers in this family, and it is really credible that both of us were treated on par. The way Shoojit broke the film down was unbelievable. Nothing in the film will remind you about Varun, the star of so many films.”
