October Box Office: Riding high after his film Judwaa 2 became a hit at the box office, it looks like Varun Dhawan is bringing something new to the table once again as he takes on a role different from anything else he’s done, in Shoojit Sircar’s October.
For those that don’t know, Varun has been delivering consecutive box office successes ever since his Bollywood debut in Karan Johar’s 2012 hit Student of The Year. With 9 films under his belt, and not a single one being a failure, the actor has achieved a feat no other actor has since their debut. Now it’ll be interesting to see if the actor can maintain this streak as he pushes his boundaries.
The biggest disadvantage that the Shoojit Sircar directorial faces is that unlike Judwaa 2 and Main Tera Hero, October isn’t a mainstream commercial film. Rather, its targeted at a more youthful audience. Also, there might be some competition from films like Blackmail, which has had a steady run and Baaghi 2, which has been unstoppable run at the box office.
On the positive side though, with a very tight budget, the film shouldn’t find it too hard to yield profits at the box office. Plus, Shoojit Sircar is known for making content-driven films that resonate well the the audience, with films like Piku, Madras Cafe and Vicky Donor to his name.

In a recent interview, Indian Express quoted director Shoojit Sircar saying, “We needed someone young and fresh, like 20 years old, so Varun Dhawan was not on my casting list at all.” Saying that he did not have the actor on his casting list at all, he confessed that he initially wanted a fresh face for the role. “But one day he was in office and I saw him, I was aware of his image, his commercial world image, but somewhere I felt he is not like that, he is different.”
October also marks the Bollywood debut of Banita Sandhu. The film is being touted as an unconventional love story, and many say that the film will break a lot of stereotypes associated with the genre. Let’s wait and see if the film can deliver on its promise.
