‘Murder 3’ Doesn’t Make A Killing; ‘Jayantabhai…’ Makes An Exit | 1st Week Box Office Report

After a terrific week when  Special Chabbis (26) as well as ABCD – Any Body Can Dance scored at the box office, it wasn’t really an exciting outing for Bollywood lovers as the new releases didn’t really ensure sustained footfalls. While Murder 3 has managed to cover costs, Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story has been entirely sidelined. Really, one expected better for both films. The Bhatt offering should have held on much better while the Vivek Oberoi starrer should have opened better.

Murder 3 had taken a decent start though cracks were visible during the weekend itself when the growth was minimal. That too was okay considering the fact that the week ahead was wide open and hence the Randeep-Aditi starrer had ample space to make its presence felt. However that didn’t quite turn out to be the case as the film started showing decline in collections over the weekdays. Call it the perception factor or sheer disinterest amongst audience but this has turned out to be one of those unfortunate cases where a good film hasn’t created waves at the box office, what with just about 19 crores coming in, as per early estimates (final figures are yet to come).

On the other hand the sheer start of Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story was so poor that resurgence of any sorts was out of question. Yet again this was one film which wasn’t bad by any means. However there were so many factors that were going against it before the release itself that once it hit the screens, there was hardly a chance of any turnaround. With the first week collections in the vicinity of 4 crores, the film is a box office disaster.

Both films were also hit by good competition from Special 26 and ABCD that continued to find their audience. Moreover, none of these can expect a run of any sorts from this point on since there are two notable releases every week in month to go.
